The Family Trail on the Kohlmais

Montelino's Adventure Path in Saalbach Hinterglemm

This stroller-friendly themed hiking trail leads gently downhill from the top station to the middle station of the Kohlmaisbahn cable car. The Story: Help Montelino Find His Smile

Because the little clown Montelino neglected his friends and toys for a while, they suddenly vanished one day. Without them, Montelino lost his smile – and that’s where the young hikers come in! Step by step, they solve little puzzles along the way and bring Montelino’s good mood back.

How the adventure works:

  1. Get your puzzle pass: Pick up the free puzzle booklet at the Kohlmaisbahn valley station ticket window (included with your lift ticket).
  2. Follow the owl: Starting at the top station, the wise owl guides you through forest sections and alpine meadows.
  3. Solve the puzzles: Find hidden clues at the stations and write them in your booklet.
  4. Claim your reward: A small surprise and entry into a prize draw await you at the valley station.

Highlights Along the Trail

With over 15 interactive stations, hiking turns into an adventure. Here are a few favorite spots:

  • Squirrel’s Nest with the Golden Nut: Climb, hide, and explore the world from a forest animal's perspective.

Practical Tips from Family to Family

A few tips to make your day even more relaxing:

  • Food & Rest Stops: Cozy alpine huts with kids' menus and sunny terraces line the route – ideal for a break along the way.
  • Equipment: Sturdy shoes, sun protection, and a change of clothes for the water playground are essential. Packing a small water bottle for each child is also a good idea.
  • Best Time of Day: If you start earlier, you can enjoy the stations without the crowds and have plenty of time before the last cable car trip down at 04:15 PM.
  • JOKER CARD Advantage: Guests staying in partner accommodations use the Kohlmaisbahn and many other regional attractions for free.

Good to Know

The trail runs almost entirely downhill, as you comfortably ride up with the Kohlmaisbahn – meaning you only walk the beautiful stretch back down to the middle station. This makes Montelino's Adventure Path ideal for families with younger kids and anyone who wants to take a mountain day at a relaxed pace.
