Right in the centre of Hinterglemm, a playground has been drawing families in since summer 2025: Montelinos Erlebnis-Alm. The former play area was completely redesigned and reopened at the end of June 2025. It is wonderfully convenient, as there is no cable car to catch and no long drive. From Hotel Alpin Juwel, it is just a short trip down into the village, perfect for a free morning or for winding down after a hike.
Almost everything here is made from local larch wood, untreated and left natural. The star of the show is Montelino himself, the children’s character of Saalbach Hinterglemm, as a giant piece of play equipment to climb. Next to him stands a large alpine hut with giant slides, along with climbing zones and balance courses, marble runs, a small cable car, a tree carousel and a parent-and-child swing. On warm days, the water and sand playground is where everyone ends up, damming, digging and splashing until their trousers are soaked. From the viewing platform, parents can keep an eye on everything.
During the summer season, Montelino the magic clown drops by regularly in person, usually on Tuesday afternoons. Current dates are listed in the tourist board’s events calendar.
Right next door is the Hinterglemm adventure golf course. If the children want to meet Montelino again, take the Kohlmais cable car in Saalbach up to Montelino’s Adventure Path: around three kilometres, 15 play stations, suitable for pushchairs, with the children’s game pass included in the cable car ticket. Montelino’s Deer Feeding also takes place on the Kohlmais every day. For more excitement, head to the Baumzipfelweg treetop trail and the Golden Gate Bridge of the Alps at the head of the valley beyond Hinterglemm.
