Family Schwabl and the Alpin Juwel team — we hike these trails ourselves.
Anyone who only knows Saalbach Hinterglemm in the winter has missed out on half the experience. In summer, the valley transforms into one of Austria's most diverse hiking regions — over 400 kilometers of marked trails, vast alpine meadows, lonely summits, and mountain huts where you don't need to book in advance because not everyone knows them yet. Alpin Juwel is right in the heart of it. Four modern cable cars start within walking distance — if you want to start at the top, you're there in minutes. Those who prefer to climb up can do that, too.
On the Reiterkogel and the surrounding slopes, there are paths made specifically for children — and they work because they have real content and don't just look nice:
🗺️ Guided Tours by the TVB: The Saalbach Hinterglemm Tourism Association offers guided hikes with local mountain guides several times a week — sunrise hikes, herb hikes, family hikes, themed hikes at the end of the valley. People who have known these paths for years and know where it gets quieter and more beautiful away from the main routes. Current dates are available at our reception; registration through us.
💡 Tour Consultation: Every morning we know what the weather will be like and which trails are currently in good condition. Anyone who asks us gets an honest assessment — not a standard recommendation from a brochure, but advice that suits your fitness level and the current day. Maps are available.
🎒 Rental Equipment: Hiking poles and backpacks are ready for you. If you wanted to travel light or forgot something — no problem.
💆 JU-WELL Spa: After a long descent, muscle soreness can set in the next morning. A targeted sports massage prevents this — or at least alleviates it. Plus, the panorama sauna with a view of the mountains you just left behind. For us, that's part of the hiking day, not a luxury extra.
🍽️ Vitalschmiede: Regional organic ingredients, fresh herbs from the area, alpine cuisine without the bells and whistles. What you need after six hours in the mountains is real food. That's what we try to be — and the feedback from our guests confirms that we usually succeed.
🏃 Nordic Walking
There is a well-developed Nordic Walking network around Saalbach Hinterglemm — ideal for everyone who prefers to move at a brisk pace on paved paths rather than on gravel and roots. Poles available upon request in-house, further info at reception.
Alpine Festivals & Events from June to October
From alpine festivals to herb hikes and regional events — the summer season in Saalbach Hinterglemm is well-filled. This isn't a program you just check off a list, but moments that turn a stay from a good one into a truly great one. You will receive current dates at check-in or at the reception.
As a guest of Alpin Juwel, the Joker Card is included in your stay:
🚡 Summer Cable Cars for Free: Four cable cars to transport you to the start of your hikes, at no extra charge. Anyone who wants to ride up daily will quickly realize what that's worth.
🚌 Hiking Bus for Free: Return trip to the valley if you're doing a point-to-point hike and don't want to take the same way back.
✅ Free Entry: To numerous attractions in the region.
The Talschluss (Valley End): Treetop path, "Teufelswasser" (Devil's Water), managed huts for a real stopover. This is where the Pinzgauer Spaziergang ends — and where you understand why the so-called Golden Gate Bridge of the Alps got its name. One of the most beautiful spots in the region, yet not overcrowded.
Schattberg East Summit (2,020 m): 360-degree panorama, easily accessible with the summer cable car, starting point for many of the most beautiful high-altitude hikes. If you're up there early, you almost have it to yourself.
Gaisstein (2,363 m): The highest grass mountain in Central Europe. For everyone who wants a peak that truly deserves the name.
Hochtorsee: Quiet, beautiful, different at every time of day. A destination you don't explain, you just go there.
💧 Reservoir Ponds: Crystal-clear mountain lakes along the hiking trails — on hot days, the best reason to take a break. Some are for looking at, some are for jumping in. We'll tell you which is which at reception.
Managed Alpine Huts: Along the trails, there are several huts with regional specialties and homemade delicacies. We'll give you the current opening times before you start — not all of them are open every day, and that’s a good thing.
