While the heat stifles the cities, summer at 1,100 meters is another world: crisp mountain air, pleasantly cool mornings, and days that call you outside. This is exactly the kind of summer you will experience at the 4*S Hotel Alpin Juwel in Hinterglemm – active whenever you feel like it, and peaceful when your body needs rest. Whether on the trails around Saalbach Hinterglemm, hiking from alpine pasture to alpine pasture, or unwinding in the JU-WELL Spa: here at the Home of Happiness, the Schwabl family welcomes you personally.
Hiking and biking trails begin just a few steps from the hotel – you start your tour practically right outside the front door, without a long drive. And if you fancy some hustle and bustle in between, you can quickly reach the newly modernized village center of Saalbach Hinterglemm, which offers even more comfort and an inviting flair following recent investments.
From May 8th to November 8th, a network of interconnected trails spanning around 400 kilometers is open to you in the Saalbach Hinterglemm Leogang Fieberbrunn region. From leisurely family walks to challenging summit paths, the Glemmtal valley offers something for every requirement – with wide panoramas and views that make the climb entirely worth it.
Saalbach Hinterglemm is one of the largest interconnected bike regions in the Alps. You can easily reach over 120 kilometers of lines and trails via the summer cable cars – from flowy e-bike tracks to crisp downhill runs, the entire spectrum is covered.
The Hinterglemm valley head (Talschluss) is an outdoor adventure space for explorers of all ages – combining nature with a healthy dose of thrill in one place. On the Treetop Trail (Baumzipfelweg), you can walk among the treetops at heights of up to 30 meters; access is via the "Golden Gate Bridge of the Alps", a 42-meter-high suspension bridge with views across the entire valley. Those looking to aim high will find exactly what they want at the High Ropes Park: various courses for every skill level and the Mega Flying Fox, which lets you glide across the valley at a height of 120 meters. At the mouth of the Saalach River, the Jump & Slide Park also provides plenty of action with its diving tower, trampoline area, and freestyle ramp.
If you like to push your limits on holiday, you will find officially marked tours with true substance. The Saalbach Hiking Challenge combines three of the region's most demanding long-distance hiking trails – the Pinzgauer Spaziergang, Seven Summits, and the Home of Lässig Walk – into a total of around 70 kilometers, nearly 4,000 meters of elevation gain, and over ten summits. For mountain bikers, the BIG-5 Bike Challenge is the ultimate classic: five mountains and five cable cars around Saalbach Hinterglemm and Leogang all in a single day. A recent addition is the Tour de Champions, which brings together the sporting highlights of Saalbach, Hinterglemm, and Leogang into one demanding bike loop.
With children, hiking here becomes an adventure. Interactive stations and puzzle trails await on Montelino's Adventure Trail and Mountain Kodok at the Kohlmais and Reiterkogel mountains – playful and relaxed, and easily manageable even with a rugged all-terrain stroller. A standout highlight is Montelino's Deer Feeding: every day between 10:00 AM and 11:00 AM, guests young and old can observe majestic stags up close just above the Panorama-Alm. When it gets hot in the valley, the Käpt'n Hook adventure pool in Saalbach is the place to be – featuring a wild water channel, tube slide, and a restaurant designed in a ship's deck style.
The valley is also culturally vibrant: at the Hinterglemm Farmers' Market and the cozy "Gasslfest" street festival, you can experience authentic alpine lifestyle and craftsmanship up close. Things take a sporty turn when the valley becomes the stage for major events like the GlemmRide Bike Festival or the World Games of Mountainbiking.
