Family Vacations in the "Valley of Games"

Summer Holiday in Saalbach Hinterglemm

When the lifts start running again in early summer and the alpine meadows burst into bloom, the Glemmtal valley transforms into one of the largest outdoor playgrounds in the Alps – the official "Valley of Games" (Tal der Spiele) of the Saalbach Hinterglemm tourism region.

Surrounding our hotel, the 4*S Hotel Alpin Juwel run by the Wolf-Schwabl family, young explorers, brave teenagers, and parents who still love to climb and carve will find themed trails, adventure mountains, and water play areas all just a stone's throw away.

Your Holiday Bonus: With the JOKER CARD, which you receive free of charge at check-in as our guest, you can ride all summer cable cars for free, enjoy complimentary access to the Käpt'n Hook adventure pool, and receive fantastic discounts at many other local attractions.

The Five Main Adventure Worlds

1. Montelino’s Adventure Trail on the Kohlmais Mountain

The story of the little clown Montelino, who lost his friends and his smile because he was too busy performing, guides children along about 30 interactive stations between the top and middle stations of the Kohlmaisbahn lift. Here, kids can climb, balance, and solve puzzles. You can pick up the little adventure toy box right at the top station.

  • Insider Tip: Every day at 10:30 AM, the deer feeding takes place just above the Panoramaalm near the wildlife enclosure. The animals come incredibly close, allowing even younger children to observe them in peace.
  • Montelino CD: The accompanying music CD is available at the bottom station of the Kohlmaisbahn and at the Reiterkogelbahn in Hinterglemm.

2. Mount Kodok on the Reiterkogel

Up on the Reiterkogel, the notorious goblin Kodok has hidden Montelino’s magic hat. Anyone searching for it will need courage and the correct secret code in their adventure pass. The trail leads through a small canyon, past the talking tree, and across several mysterious stations.

  • Target Group: This trail works brilliantly for primary school children between the ages of four and ten, as the distance and the puzzle difficulty are perfectly tailored to this age group.

3. Schnitza’s Wood Park at the End of the Valley

Located right next to the "Teufelswasser" (Devil's Water) at the end of the valley in Lengau, everything here revolves around wood – as a natural material to touch, carve, and understand. Children can compete in milking "Resi" the wooden cow, carve their own walking sticks, play extreme mini-golf, or solve the tree-slice puzzle. It’s a place where families can easily spend three or four hours without anyone missing their smartphones.

4. High Ropes Park at the End of the Valley

With courses ranging from 3 to 40 meters in height, the High Ropes Park operated by Bauböck is one of the largest facilities in Europe. For those with a head for heights, the absolute highlight is the Mega Flying Fox, which lets you glide across the valley at heights of around 100 meters and speeds of up to 70 km/h. Every participant is permanently double-secured via a continuous lifeline, and a full safety briefing is provided at the training course before you start.

  • Important: Be sure to bring sturdy, closed-toe footwear!

5. The Teufelswasser (Devil’s Water) at the End of the Valley

A completely free, beautifully designed water playground at the end of the Glemmtal valley road. Kneipp basins, a rock pool, a play stream, and a forest play area are designed so that children can decide for themselves just how wet they want to get.

  • Tip from Experience: Make sure to pack a change of clothes – it always comes in handy!

What’s New in the Valley of Games?

  • Montelino’s Adventure Alm in the Center of Hinterglemm: The former family park has been completely redesigned. It now features a walk-in Montelino structure, a massive water play area, a viewing platform, a tree carousel, giant slides, climbing routes, and several marble runs. Admission is free.
  • Treetop Trail & Golden Gate Bridge of the Alps: A 600-meter walkway at treetop height, complemented by a 42-meter-high suspension bridge stretched across the end of the valley. It offers one of the most unique perspectives of the region – a truly mindful moment, even for adults.
  • Käpt'n Hook Adventure Pool in Saalbach: Complete with a wild water channel, tube slides, and a ship-deck restaurant. Free of charge for guests with the JOKER CARD – making it the perfect hotspot for hot summer days or a refreshing cool-down after a hike.
  • Kodok’s Knowledge Trail & Motor Skill Trail: Two frequently overlooked highlights. On the Knowledge Trail on the Hochalm, children learn about mountain nature and alpine farming through play, while the Motor Skill Trail tests balance and coordination across 24 stations right along the Saalach river.
